Like you, I watched the election on Tuesday. The coming weeks bring a blend of emotions—relief and anxiety, joy and disappointment. Here at St. Timothy’s we have a mix of experiences as well. Some of us find renewed hope in the election’s outcome, while others feel deep disappointment. As followers of Christ, we share a bond rooted in humility, compassion, and patience with each other.
I want to suggest a post election practice:
Aim to be a source of peace in your words and actions. Take time to truly listen, especially to those whose perspectives differ from your own, Our identity in Christ is not tied to American politics. We are shaped by grace and called to embody hope.
Sunday Mornings:
I don’t intend to talk about the election on Sunday mornings, except to pray for our country. My office door is open to anyone who needs to talk. This is not solo adventure, do you need support? Please find the courage to ask trusted partners to be with you in the days ahead.
Know this:
Love guides our words,
patience guides ours actions,
and humility guides our hearts.
We are a community of love that works for what we believe in. There is good ministry ahead even as we lament or celebrate this moment in our country. I leave you with a line from Bishop Rios' pastoral letter: "The message of God’s love in Jesus Christ has never been, and will never be, fully expressed through the powers and principalities of this world."
